Field Deck,-; of Sydney, who died, last week, at toomba, after only a fortnight's ill- ~ ness In the early days of Southland- ■; Mrs Deck's father (Mr Henry Young)./ was well known and much respected the Western district, where he for many years on his station at Enne-~-Tr dale, near Fairfax. Shprtly after marriage (says the "Soutlfland .News ), « Dr. Deck occupied tho house in. Don,; street, now the residence of Mr A. / Mair. This house was originally built., for and occupied by the Superintendent V of Southland (the Hon. J. A. R. Men-;',? zies). About 1871 Dr. Deck removed ; to Dimedin, and thence a few years*" later to Sydney. Both Dr. and M»*n Deck took a very etronß interest m<; mission work, and of their largo family there are now five members enpaged la.-.il the foreign field—on© daughter inK Egypt, one in China, and two sons a daughter in the Solomon where Dr. Northcoto Deck has proved r himself to be an intrepia exolorer and pioneer in Gospel work. Mrs DecJre-* ■ death will be deeply mourned br * lar?e circle of friends in New Zo*- * . land and New South Wales, and tijere' -; are many old residents in Southland who will extend eympatfrv to Dr. Dect * and the family in their bereavement.-. -
