THE NIAGARA'S SHIPMENT.
(press association telegram.) AUCKLAND, January. 11
The first shipment of 511,000 bushels of wheat ordered from abroad by the Government arrived this morning by the Niagara from Vancouver. Mr C. A. Mathieson, an officer of the Agricultural Department, is in Auckland to arrange for the distribution of the grain. The Auckland Harbour Board was prepared, if necessary, to store tho wheat for the Government free of cost, but this is not necessary, as applications have been received which will enable the grain to be delivered from the ship's side. ' The arrangements are in the hands or a wheat distribution committee, on behalf of which Mr Mathieson is acting. Tho wheat costs the Government 6s 3d, but Jβ to be sold at 5s 9d per bushel. In the event of larger shipments coming later on that may require to be stored, the Harbour Board is prepared to aid the Government by providing shed accommodation gratis.
