CANTERBURY'S QUOTA
Thirty men is the number that, has to bo sent from the Chrisfcr.hu roh district for the Samoan sarrrison force, and so far 12 have been pnsstxl by tho doctor. Eighteen more men between the age of SO and -t? arc still needed as soon as possible.
Sevcnty-nino men have volunteered from the district for the 4th reinforcements, and these wcro examined la*t night. This is actually more than tho quota, and m>mo of tho passed men will bt» reserved for t!io oth reinforcement*. Seventy-five infantry and -'o mounted men will be required from the> Christchurch district lor tho oth reinforcements, and those men will go into camp about the middle of February. Tho Defence* authorities hoj»« that a steady stream of men will continue to enrol, for they -nil! probably all bo needed, and will bo drafted into the different reinforcements as required. At prewnt men are coming in regularly in fair numbers.
