A war tax of twelve million francs was ini]>osed on Courtrai. Four million was demanded instantly, but the municipal treasury was empty. The town is suffering greatly from requisitions. Wool to the value of twenty million francs has ben seized. The Germans have prohibited working at night in the bakeries to prevent fresh bread being supplied iai the 11101-11111,5. expecting thereby to reduce consumption.
