ANNIVERSARY SERVICES.
Anniversary services in connexion with the Luiwocd Salvation Army Sunday Schco] were "held last Sunday and ilenduy. Major Xcwby had charge, of all f-lue nx-ttings, and M.r J. ilath.cscri conducted the singing. WHARENUI SCHOOL COMMITTEE. The monthly iiK-rtin? of the Wharwiui School Ccmtnit'.-« was bo-Id on Monday evening. Present—Mfssrp F. G. Coombs, Stee-rc, Sinunt-m, Stokes. Church, iiurgfert, McLean, and Giidsell. Correspondence was received from the Board of Education, that applications wctb boing invited for an asfistant master, and that they wer* , undertaking tho a-ppoiTitinj; of pupil-t-oaohors. It was agreed that the school should break-up on Decomlier ■ -3rd till February Ist. It was decided, in view of tho majority of the houfcho'dere votinrr in favour of tho racecourse, to hod the school picnic there. Mr Stcero was given leave to withdraw hie nMice of motion with regaad to the purchase of land at the rear of th« school. Mci?Frs Coombe and Burgefe wcro appointed a Committee for the month. The Works Committee were instructed to proceed with tho erection of new seats in the new playground. AMALGAMATED SOCIETY OF RAILWAY SERVANTS. The tcrrth annual meeting of the A.S.B.S. Sick Benefit Society wae held on Monday evening, i£r J. H. Grammer in the chair. The annual report elated that eicknesa had agnin been very heavy during the year, £389 12s having been paid out, but this was £21 14s 3d less than the previous year. The balance-sheet show-ed a credit balance of £&4 Hβ lid. whilst the liabilities amounted to £32 les Ud. The report and were adopted. Officers were elected as follow: —President, Mr R. L. Burgees; vioe-prcsident, Mr W. Paget; secretar}-, Mr H. Chapb'n; treasurer, Mr W. Mullaney; auditors. MeEare A. McNauphton and H. Stackhouso; eic£ visitors, Mcesrs H. L. Jackson and J. T. Rohbins; trustees, Messrs R. L. Burgees and T. Thin; committee: shops. Messrs J. H. Grammer, A. J. Beniley, T. Wildermoth, H. L. Jaclcson. J. T. ELMWOOD SCHOOL. A concert wae held in the Rugby street Schoolroom in aid of the Elmwood School prize fund- There was & very good attendance, and an excellent programme, consisting of songs, humorous items, and dances woe submitted. The items were heartily applauded, and several encores were demanded. Owing to the generosity of a number of esitiiusiaete, the expenses of the entertainment were very small, k> that nearly the whole of the takings will be available for the purchase of prizes. The committee desiro to thank the following, who contributed to the evening's entertainment: —Miss Cowan'e pupils, Mj&hs Wauchop, M , . Stringer, Williams, T&lbot, Bowcn, Baldwin, Ritchie, Johnston, and Hardie, Messrs T. Charters, P. H. Jonee, Wauchop and Wilkinson, and all others who aasisted, alfio Mr W. Jones for decorations, Moktts W. Strange and Co. loan of chairs, and Messrs Webley, Sons and Gofton piano. A special .meeting of the Elm wood School Committee waa held on Monday evening to consider applications for the position of second aseistant-master. Messrs McKcnzie, Fraser, Free, Dalmer, Jonee, Winterbourne, Gibeon, and Howard were present. The. !w?admaster was aiso jn attendance. The. Educa<tion Board submitted the najcea of four applicants, one of whom had in the meantime been appointed to another school. After due consideration it via decided to recommend the- Board to appoict Mr A. T. Barrell to the position.
