The High Court, to-day delivered an important judgment in connexion with .the Seamen's Compensation Act. Tho second officer in ;i steamer was killed at sea. and the- widow l-ecovered £-500 damages. Tho Australian Steamship Company appealed against tho verdict on tho ground that tho Commonwealth Parliament had no power to pa&s an Act relating to extra-territorial matters. The Court, by five to one. Sir Ednmud Barton being the dissentient, dismissed tho appeal.
