A severe earthquake did considerable damage in the lonian Islands. Houses were- destroyed, and three peoplo were killed at San Maura. Ifc is stated that tho bomb outrage in Calcutta was tho work of a revengeful anarchist, and was not connected with the war or the political situation. It is stilted that the Khedive, on July 27th. was shot through both che'eUs at Constantinople by a. young Egyptian, who subsequently was mysteTiously killed. The Aurora has been further delayed owing to tho dockyard strike at" Sydney. Captain Mclntosh fears that "if Sir Ernest Shackleton does not start his trans-Continental journey immediately, the delay may imperil the iive> of his party.
