Thero was a crowded and enthusiastic audience. Tho Mayor presided. Stirring speeches were delivered bj , prominent citizens, and the recruiting officprs wero present-. In response to an invitation from the chairman, twenty-six Toiinrr men who were- present enlisted, and fifty others, who had juat enrolled, aopeared on tho platform and were given a rousing reception. Tho Hon. James Allen's announcement fcßardinc older men volunteering for servico at Samoa to replace the present troops was enthusiastically received.
