The funeral of the late Mr. HugE Elder took place yesterday, and was attended by representatives of the public bodies with which he had been connected, and a large number of friends. The Rev. A. Laishley read the burial service. The Senior Cadets, under Lieutenant A. L. Gray, last night' successfully defended the town from an attack, the enemy consisting of Territorials and members of the Defence lliflo Club,
tinder Captain J. L. Con lan. The Cadete will strike camp to-day. A meeting of the Volunteer Fire Brigade was. held last night to consider the Borough Council's decision'not to refer the quertion of constituting the borough a frre district to the burgesses. It was agreed to obtain further information, and to re-open the matter. Mr P. Snowden, M.P., gavo an addreee on Prohibition in the Oddfollows' Hall last night, .and was accorded a vote of thanks on the motion of trio Rev. A. Laishley, seconded by Mr C. Morpan-Williams. The Mayor (Mr J. W. Barnard) presided.
