METROPOLITAN SHOW.
JUDGING DAY.
FINE WEATHER AND SPLENDID EXHIBITS.
In fine woatber and under entirely favourable conditions, tho second day of tho Canterbury A. and P- Association's Metropolitan Show was held yes. terday. Thero wero no outward signs of tho gale of tho previous evening. Tho Association's grounds at Addington looked green and fresh,, the snowcapped Southern Alps completing a picture that was pleasant to look upon. The attendance was very good, and was, if anything, slightly better than was the case on the second day of last year's show. Always striking features of the show are the displays in tents, and this year the number of tents was quite as largo as on previous occasions. Flags fluttered from every building and tent and added considerably to the gaiety and animation of the scene. A varied programme of popular pieces by the band also assisted to enhance the pleasure of tlio crowd. Thero was a wealth of attractions for visitors. Tho sheep pens proved a common meeting-place for a large number, and many were tho commendatory remarks made regarding the quality of the stock shown. The cattle and horses also attracted the attention of large numbers, and here, again, tho high quality of tho exhibits evoked appreciative comment. The judging ring was well-lined during the morning by a largo crowd of interested onlookers, and the judging competitions in tho afternoon were followed with keen interest. The machinery and implements section was another section which attracted a fairly large crowd, and the working exhibits, as woll as those showing the latest improvements in farming implements and machinery wero closely inspected. In the produco shod the visitors were specially struck with the very fine and effective exhibit made by the Department of Agriculture. The display of motor-cars this year was a very fine one, and the various tents in which the machines were on view were practically thronged all day with much-in-terested visitors. The Kennel Club's dog show was also well patronised.
The side shows this year were as numerous and as varied as ever. Circus entertainments and entertainments similar in character ranged from exhibitions of a tattooed lady and of Siamese twins to an exhibition of Mr Scotland's aeroplane, and a demonstration of the intricacies of tho tango. Hoop-la was again a favourite temptation to the skilled, and vied with the new game of darts in enticing the public to try their luck. Vendors of walk-ing-sticks, bedecked with the British or Belgian colours, and sellers of other articles were also in evidence in large numbers, and appeared to do good business. A number of young ladies approached the holiday-makers on the sub-<----ject of purchasing tickets in the Poor of Britain, Ireland, and Belgium Fund Art Union, and collectors wero busy on the grounds collecting in connexion with "Belgium Week." . The arrangements in connexion with the Show reflected great credit on the secretary, Mr 0. B. l'embcrton, and his assistants.
