''•The Retreat from Moscow,"' and "Tho Rock at St. Helena.*' POPULAR ORCHESTRAL CONCERT. To-nic;ht at the Opera House the Christchurch Orchestral Society will Rive the first popular concert. I'ho programme, which will bo entirely I popular, -will consist of vocal and or- ; chestral items. The orchestra] portion will include overture *' William Tell" ("Rossini), tone poem, "Finlandia" (Sibelius), ovc-fure. "Fliedermans" (Strauss), and "Ballet Egyptien*' (Luiginil. Mr D. Sinclair, a well-known clarinet player, will play Mozart's "Adagio" with full orchestral accompaniment, and Mr Herbert. Fox. a lea-lino* eornetist, will play "Tbe Rosary" (Nevins), for trumpet and orchestra. Mr Leonard Barnes will be tho vocalist, and will sine; "The Two Grenadiers" (Schumann) and ""Fato" (Woodford Find-en). By special reo"est the orchestra will repeat tho "Patriotic Tribute," arranged by Mr Thorley. and civen with great success at the lato subscription concert. The concert will be under tne direction of Mr Handel Thorley. The box plan is open at the Dresden.
PICTURE ENTERTAINMENTS. "One of Our Girls," a fine dramatic production, is proving a big attraction at His Majesty's Theatre. The war pictures in the two issues of the "Gaumont Graphic" ore exceptionally interesting. The programmo will bo repeated to-night. The Colossoum was well attended last night when the current programme was repeated. Tho star comedy, "The Knockout," was a great attraction and produced roars of laughter. The samo pictures will be shown to-night. There were large attendances of patrons at the Queen's Thoatro at all sessions yesterday and the pictures shown were much enjoyed. The programme will be repeated to-day and to-night and a complete change of pictures is announced for to-morrow.
Tho pictures at the Grand. Theatre were witnessed by crowded houses at all sessions yesterday. The samo films will be screened to-day. -The Globe Theatre was well patronised yesterday, and the current pro* gramme proved most popular. To-day tho same pictures will bo shown. Tho Famous Players romance, "On© of Our Girls," and other pictures were witnessed by an interested audience at the Svdenham Theatre last evening. Tho pictures will bo screened to-night for the last timo. OPERA HOUSE. Leslie Holmes and liis new Musical Costume ComeSy Co., the Pierrots and Courtiers, will mako their first appearance before a Christchurch audience on Monday next. Their performances are very well spoken of by tho Auckland and Wellington Press. The entertainment is of tho samo calibre as the Crimson Ramblers and* H-uxham's Serenaders. Tho principal comedian of tho ', combination is Mr T/eslie Holmes. Supporting; him are:—Miss Rosina Palmerston (soprano), Miss Madge Griffiths I (contralto), Mr Harry Roman© (light j comedian), Mr Sidney Kingsley (tenor). ! Miss Lenore Graham (soiibrette), and iMr Fred Veal (comedian). All theso artists will be associated in concerted numbers, and they will give the wholo of tho first part. MYSTERIOUS HTJGARJ>. Hugard, tho magician, opens at tho King's Theatre on Saturday next. To impress theatre-goers nowadays with tho mysterious, an entertainer must have more than the ordinary stock-in-trade of the average conjurer at his command. Hugard is said to be in the zenith of his power. It is claimed that for two and a-half hours thc performance rivets the attention, one of tho most striking features being that tho work is done in absolute silence most of the time, but it is, nevertheless, impossible to sco how the tricks are done. The illusions and tricks are new and novel, and Hugard's Rifle Act is also included. Hugard is supported by a number of artists, both vocal and instrumental.
