THE MILK SUP PLY.
SYSTEM IN AUCKLA_vD. BEST IN THE DOMINION. ".BPECI-I. TO "THE rRESS.") W_LL_NGTON. July 10. The question of _, the purity of -in» milk supply in Auckland and other cities was raised to-day in the course of the interview between the delegates from the -Uunket Nurse Society and the Prime Minister. Mrs A. M. Myers, of Auckland, who introduced the matter, spoke of the dangers arising from germ-laden milk, and drew attention to the need for strict inspection, especially in warm climates such aa that of Auckland. Tho Plunket nurses, she said, had often brought this matter before the Society, and had stated that it was impossible ito obtain a supply of pure humanised milk for infants.. • _ Mr Massey said that tbe inspection of milk was more a matter for municipalities than for the Government. As Minister for Agriculture, however, he had been looking into the matter, and he was able to say that in Auckland the milk supply was in a .better position than in any other centre' of the _>ominion. At Auckland the cows, the food, and the water-supply, as well as the buildings and utensils-, wero all subjected to close inspection. He would be glad ii the system were as good in other centres.. The system might' not be perfect-, but it was better than a great many people imagined, j The Minister for -Public Health (the j Hon. "ft. Heaton Rhodes) said that the Wellington City Council was moving in the matter, and that Mr-Ell already had a Bill before Parliament in regard to the milk supply in Christchurch.
