In' the House this afternoon, Mr Hindmarsh introduced the Imprisonment for Debt Limitation Act Amendment Bill, and it was read a first time. Mr Forbes wants -a report made on the holding of land in North Canterbury, with a-.view of bringing about the closer settlement of the sparsely settled portions'of that district.Mr Hanan purposes . introducing ,an Election of Ministers and Party Government Reform Bill. Sir Joseph Ward wants a return showing the amount of money. borrowed in London during the last financial year, other than by public flotation giving the dates and the charges incurred under each, heading, and i'or what purpose tho'money was borrowed; also a return showing, the increased amount of income. tax paid by public or private comjymies since the alteration of the rate was maMe by tho present Government. Mr Reed would like to alter the system of payment of subsidies to' branches of ttte Plunket Society, and make- payments in future direct to the branches of tho society, instead of paying through the local Hospital and Chaitable Aid Boards. •,.
