SEIZURE OF OPIUM.
CHINESE SAILORS FINED. (srxci/a. to "the pkess.") WELLINGTON,. July 7. Information being recei%-od by the Customs officials tuat opium was on board tho steamer Northern, the officers ', kept a watch ou her Chinese crew yesterday morning, and tore© Chinese were followed to Haining etreet. Iv tho eveniing tne men again came off tne boat and made their way up town. Thoy separated, and were followed by tho Ctjstoras officials, who pounced upon two of them. They showed fight, and one ran away, but was secured and handed over to' Detective Dcinpsey. ' When seaicbed, several tins of opium were found beneath, the 'sash round their waists. At tho Police Court to-day they pleaded guilty, and were fined i'2o each, which will bo paid by the shipping i company, which otherwise would have to enter into bonds for £100 each, as the men are prohibited immigrants.
