LYTTELTON.

The Lyttelton Borough Coxincil met last night. Present —The Mayor (Mr' J. R. Webb), and Crs. J. Gutiirie, J. T. Norton, \V. Radcliffe, N. C. Schumacher, F. Walklin, F. J. Page, N. T. Foster, and J. H. Collins.. It was decided to accept an invitation from the Lyttelton Ladies' Swimming Club to attend tho annual social gathering this month. Tho secretary of the Domain Board wrote statinjr that the head gardener would bo pleased to provide plantß to improve tho jjort when such were available. The Town Clerk of -the New Brighton Borough Council wrote, asking whether they would object to bis body joining ■with Lyttelton and Sumner in having Mr G. W. C. Smithson, Mnyorof Sumnor, as. tfieir representative on' tho Domain Board. It was decided to reply to the effect that Lyttelton had already joined with Sumner in the matter, and that, such boing tho case, it ivould prob- ! ably bo more profitable for New Brighton to amalgamate with "Woolston. It was decided that the Mayor and thoi Town Clerk shoijld represent the Council at tho Municipal .Confcrenco to bo held at Wellington on July 14th.. A complaint from Mr J. Davios regarding a ! 'nuisance caused by fowls in St.' David street was left in the hands of Iho Inspector. " The Works Committee reported that they were taking steps to ascertain the responsibility of regarding repairs to a right-of-wny off Joyce street beforo authorising any expenditure. The Estates Committee, reporting ou tho matto- of railway siding charges, recommended that the Council pay a proportion of them. As the present arr.Tigement between tho Railway Department and the Council's tenants was for only a year,, the matter would be reconsidered when tho former body went into .the question of altering the sidings, and fixing the charces at the end of the. present year. —Adopted. Tho financial statement was as follows:—District Fund Account dr., £11.162 ' 11s 2d, including temporary loans £9923 14s Id. Accounts, as presented, amounting to £989 4s, wore passed for payment.
