HIGH COMMISSIONER'S REPORT.
(PRKSS ASSOCIATION TELKCBAU.) „ WELLINGTON, Junp 8. The following is the High Commissioner's cable report, dated London, June 6th: — (Note: Quotations, unless otherwise specified, are average market prices on spot.) Mutton: A good demand continues. Prices, are firm, especially for light weights. Canterbury, 4Jd for light weights; heavy weights, 3sd; North Island, 4|d for best quality light weights. Lamb: The market is quiet but steady. There is less demand on account of the large supply of inferior quality English lamb. Canterbury two's. 6 5-16 d for first-class quality, to as high as 6id. lleef: There is less demand owing to tho supplies of American chilled beef being largo. New Zealand hjnas, 4 7-l<3d; fores, 3 7-16 d; chilled hinds, ofd; fores, 3Jd. Butter: There has been no alteration in the butter market since last week. Danish is quiet at 114s to 116s. The New Zealand market is quiet but steady at 108s to 110s; Australian is selling at 100s. The .Siberian market is quiet but steady at 98s to 102s. Irish, creamery is'slpw at 104s, to 108 a. Cheese: The market is firmer. Old Canadian firm at 68s to 70s; new is in good demand at 61s to 625; New Zealand makes are in good demand, white at 62s to 635, and coloured at 64s to 655. It is estimated that the Canadian cheese stqeks on June 2nd, at London, Bristol, iand Liverpool, were 33,000 boxes, against 67,000 at the same time Inst year. The New Zealand. and Australian stocks in London and Bristol wcro 37,000 crates, against 34,000 last year. Hemp: The market is quiet, and there is small business doing. Prices have declined. Manila fair current £26, June to August shipments 5s more. The output from Manila for the week was 21,000 bales. New Zealand good fair £26, fair £23, June to August ehipments os more in each case. The stock of New Zealand hemp at the end of May was 971 tons.
Sisal: The market is reported easier. The~New York quotation is 5.25 cents per lb, equal to £25 per ton ci.f. Europe. The shipments from Progreso during April were 102,893 bales, against 47,938 during April of last year. The stocks at the beginning -of May were 40,957 bales, against 127,009 last year. Tow: The market is quiet, and ther«j is very little offering at nominal values. Second grade £13 10s, third grade £12 10s. The stock at tbe end of May was 334 tons. Kauri Gum: The -market is firm, but little business is doing. Prices are nominally unchanged. Fifty packages were offered, but they mostly were of low grade, and none was sold. Hops: The market is quiet, but prices are fairly steady. English 115s to 1355, Continental 95s to 100b ; Calif ornian 75s to 100s. Wool: The market is quiet but firm.
