GERALDINE.
(Before Messrs J. Kennedy and H. Bannehr, J.P.'s.) Robert Fairbairn was charged with assaulting Joan Hayes'(Mr lnglis) at iour Peaks. Defendant, in ineading guilty, said lie acted in eelf-deience. A tine of £2, with £2 14s costs, was imposed, halt the line to ue paid in compensation to Hayes.. A number of lytience cases adjourned from March 23nt to give the defaulters au opportunity to ' 'make good," were heard. The majority of the cases were withdrawn or dismissed, owing to regular attendance during the interval, or because medical certificates had been handed in. Thomas Bates, who had done practically no training, was fined 20s and costs 9s 6d; James Connihan, for irregular attendance, was fined 10s and costs 12s, and Vernon Stewart, who had removed from Rakaia without notifying the Department, escaping military duty • for ' twelve months, was'lined 10s and 7s costs. Judgment in favour of plaintiff, by" default, was given in "\V. A. "Sherratt (Mr lnglis) v. W. P. Horwell, claim £3 Os lid, coste 24s 60.
