ASHBURTON.
(Before Mr V. G. Day, S.M.) For breaches of the Defence Act the following fines were imposed :—-U. C. Stock <S)s, Mathew McMillan 10s, Arthur Carroll ss, Arthur Vincent New os, Raymond Oakley convicted and ordered to pay costs, "Edward Charles New, Charles Patchings,, and William Ross convicted and discharged. A Taylor Smith, for failing to attend camp, was fined 40s. A charge against William James Skiliing,(Mr Orbell) was adjourned. W. Thretheway, of Timaru, farmer (Mr Buchanan) proceeded against Geo. Kennington, of Carew, farmer (Mr Orbell), claiming £9 for work done. There was a counter-claim for £9 18s 6d for hire of horses and drays, cartage, etc. A verdict was given for plaintiff for £4 lis and costs.,
Judgment was given for plaintiff by default with costs in the following civil cases: —Charles E. Bailey (Mr Kennedy) v. Blanchard Coward, claim £8 los 6d; J. Cooper (Mr Buchanan) v. Benjamin Aldridge, claim 9s; and W. H. Collins v. Blanchard Coward, claim £9 los. Annie Johnston "McKay applied for an order to bo made against David McKay for the payment of £6 10s. Defendant was ordered to pay the amount forthwith, in default fourteen days' imprisonment, the warrant to be suspended so long as defendant pays 10s a fortnight. The case Grey Russell Sarney v Robert Totty. claim £100 for alleced wrongf-'l dismissal, was adjourned till June I9th.
