AMBERLEY.
'A.parade of the Amberley section, C Company, 14th Regiment, and the 24th Senior Cadets, also members, of the Telegraph and Railway Corps, was held in honour of the King's Birthday, Lieut. Haynian being in command. The company was inarched through the town to the public school ground, and formed
up in front of the flagstaff, the marches being played by Buglers Grear and Arthur. On the Union Jack being hoisted, the Salute was eounded, the whole Company presenting arms. Mr W. H. Halo, chairman of the Kowai County Council, then addressed the men present, giving them good advice fitting to the occasion. Afterwards Mr Hale was asked to present tbo Ladies' Challenge Cup for riflo shooting among Senior Cadet companies, the one for tho 24th Company being won by Cadet James Stanton, he being the highest scorer for the year. The medal, which goes with tho cup, and is the property of tho winner, was also pinned on by Mr Bale. Tho Company was, then marched back to the Defenco office, and dismissed. ' RANGIORA. A meeting was held at Rangiora on Thursday night to consider the advisability of forming a gun club. Mr B. Edwards presided. After considering the matter aud tho promised support, it, was decided to form a club, to be called the North Canterbury Gun Ciub. The following were appointed officers: — Patron, Mr H. Lnsor; president, Mr B. Edwards; vice-orcsidents, Messrs J. G. MacDoaakl, T. J. Hunter, A. J. Tutton, O. Hope, G. Rutherford, C. Byrne, J- McCrackon. and H. R. Dix; committee. Messrs R. Hamilton, ID. Truscott, G. Bevingham, A. Prestney, and ,C. H. Lander; secretary and treasurer, H. McNelly. It was decided to affiliate with the parent Association, and to draw up a s«t ot" rules to govern the Club. The opening day is to be arranged for later. *
