ILL-NOURISHED CHILDREN.
• TO THE EDITOR Ol* "TE** -BBSS." Sir, —Will you allow mo to reply to some rather misleading statements. 1 was drawing attention to the high prico of foods {necessary, to delicate children) and the large amount- imported from the country.. Ay children are not attending any ci tho schools mentioned, cud, it they were, I should not dream of blaming the teachers. I think school teachers have enough worry nowadays-. ._.-> well as parents. My children's teachers have done all they coiijd to advance my e__i!dr_n, both in health and education, for which 1 thank them. _ The nodical inspector's orders I faithfully followed as regards teeth, of which t_eeayed) I had _0 extracted between two of my little girls; also as to worm clothing (as far as possible*, sunshine, fresh air. and food. I rook' three hot meals a day, and 1 never use tir.nr-d moat —generally stew-, soup, fried onions, boiled or baked potatoes. My iittl- girl., questioned by the Inspector, as to what they had had for breakfast, promptly answered porridge, with a f-poonful of treacle on it* (not the ham nnd eggs we hear about). I sup pose there may be a iew mothers, perhaps, who leave their homes. On the other hand many caunot ge: out for a while (I being one of the latter). I
have been in Christchurch Hospital three rim*-.- in ten years (once for aa operation) through worry and being run down in health. -My health is not satisfactory even now. yet we are told we go out far too much. I don't know if I ii:n included in the list of unfortunate mothers—T hope not, anyway. My husband is an abstainer and hardworking, and I am a member of the church, when I can get there. 3iy children hare a number of pri7.es f*-om the Sunday- School. Previously I was connected with a religious body for twelve years in the City, any member of which would be only to j_;lad to personally s_x?ak for myself and my family. As to mothers giving sweets, one can hardly blame them, if me's bend is aching, and one want, quietness fo. a tew minutes.—Yours etc.. j A WORKING MAN'S WTF fc.
