LYTTELTON TICKET OFFICE.
TO THK EDITOR O- "THK _hKS-.*' _ Sir, —There is a notice posted at tuo ticket oliice at Lyttelton station _tat ing "that this oiliee will he open fifteen minutes before tho departure of trains.'' It the figure one were erased it would lie nearer the truth. On Saturday last a large number of passengers wero waiting to proceed to Christ.iiurc... by the 10.20 a.m. train. In spke oj many knock- the ticket door was nor opened till within four minutes of the appointed timo of departure, tha result being that the train did not leavQ till 10.25! just five minutes late. This is, 1 may say, by no means an unusual occurrence, and t have known nianv instances of people, having to get on tho train without tickets and pay the fine because there was no time given to get them. Dc you think that" th : _ matter is beyond the power of the stationmaster to see to? Or would it require a deputation to the Minister of Railways, or Mr Hiley? Tho fact of the train having to wait till passengers got their tickets is indeed very ludicrous.—Yours, etc., ■ VIATOR.
