MR BLOOMFIELD _ CAREER

(-RZS- -gSOnTATIOW TEL-GRAM.) AUCKLAND, May 31. The Union Company has received official advice that the Auckland passengers aboayd the Empress of Ireland were Mr W. R. Bloomfield, Mrs ploomfield. Miss Bloomfield, Mrs H. Wynn Price, and Miss Townshend. Of these, all woro drowned except Miss Townshend. Mrs Wynn Price is an aunt of Miss Townshend.

Mr W. R,. Bloomfield is very well known -in Auckland, having been prominent in sporting, Territorial, and local government matters for a good many years. He was born, in Poverty Bay 53 years ago, and was trained for the Bar. For some years he practised in Aucklandl He was particularly well known in connexion with polo and hunting, and was a prominent member of the Auckland Racing Club. Mr Bloomfield was coldnel of tho Third (Auckland) Mounted Regiment. He was an experienced and zealous officer, esteemed by both his fellow-officers and the men. In local government matters ho was also, a prominent figure, having been .chairman of the Epsom Road Board f6r many years, and. also a member of the Auckland and Suburban Drainage Board, and the Local Bodies' Association, for a good many years. Mr Bloomfield had not been actively en-gaged-itf business, but he •; had large interests in Poverty Bay, where Messrs Bloomfield Bros.' sheen runs are situated, v .'■'•:' " '
