THE LATE COMMISSIONER REES.
Lieutenant-Colonel Powley, Chief Officer of the Salvation Army in New Zealand, who was well acquainted with Commissioner Bees for many years, on heinf informed of the disaster, said to a "Post" reporter:—"The news of Commissioner Rees's death will lie rereived with deepest sorrow throughout the entire Salvation Army world. He was one of the best known of Army leaders, as well as one of the best-loved men in our ranks. His work for many yenm in England, and subsequently us head of the International Training College, brought him into close contact with thousands of Salvation Army officers and soldiers throughout tho world. Commissioner Ree-; entered the Salvation Army from Reading in 1882. He was for many years Field Secretary in the United Kingdom, Territorial Commissioner for South Africa, Sweden, and twice in Canada."
Tim "Post" says that amongst the Niagara's passengers were Brigadier Annette Paul and Envoy Mrs Underwood; late of On mam. who was travelling with her husband. So far as is known by their friends in Wellington, they intended .to visit the United fixates on route, and therefore it is considered unlikely that they were on board the ill-fated shin. It may be mentioned that Paul was a passenger by the Wairarapa when she was wrecked at the Great Barrier Island, near Auckland.
So far as is known, Brigadier Paul and Envoy Underwood wero the only members of the Salvation Army in New Zealand who went Home via America. •
