CAPTAIN JAMES MATTHEWS.

A very old identity in the person of Captain James Matthews died on Sunday night at West Lyttelton, aged seventy-eight years. Captain Matthews came to New Zealand from the Old Country about forty-eight years ago, and had charge of several sailing vessels, which traded along the coast, the Kestrel and Gipsy Queen being among the number. He leaves a grown-up family.
