WELLINGTON, March IG. A cable message has been received announcing the death at Bournemouth, England, of Mr Edwin Charles Batkin, son of the late Mr C T. Batkin, who was for many years Secretary to the Treasury and Assistant ControllerGeneral. He was born in Auckland, and was at one time in the Crown Law Office and later in business in Wellington on Lambton quay as a tobacconist. Ow-ing-to bad health, he moved to Queensland, and later to Bournemouth. Some years ago he was one of the most prominent figures in local yachting and rowing circles, taking an active, part in the affairs of the Port Nicholson •Yachting Club and Star Boating Club. He was also closely identified with the governing body of the New Zealand Amateur Rowing Association.
