BOROUGH COUNCILS.

WOOLSTON.

The Woolston Borough Council met last evening. Present —The Mayor (Mr J. J. Graham), and Crs. F. Newton. G. Lilley, D. Mcßae, T. Radcliffe, W. Fuller, J. B. Richardson, and L. M. Hart. The financial statement showed receipts £1166 3s 2d: credit balance, general account, £1664 13s; dr. balance, temporary loan. £168 9s sd; cr. balance, public works loan, £136 6s 4d. It was decided that the solicitor give notice to defaulters regarding outstanding rates. Tho Mayor stated that ho had made a tour of the borough with Inspector Hugo in connexion with firoprevention matters, and the latter, after going fully into the question, had asked for full data on which he would report as early as possible. Tlio details had been 6tipp!ied. It was resolved to send a letter thanking Inspector Hugo for his prompt attention to tho matter. The Mayor was empowered to interview the Minister of Internal Affairs on his next visit to Christchurch. in connexion with a grant towards Woolston Domain. The application of tho Woolston Association Football Club (late St. John's) for a ground in the Domain was referred to tho Reserves Committee. Similar requests from the Woolston Hockey C lib and tho Ngaio Ladies' Hockey Club were also referred to tho same committee. A letter drawing thp Council's attention to tho necessity for carrying drainage pipes through below the rnflwny bridge to prevent tho tide backing up ami swamping, the complainant's land was referred to the Works Committee. The Heathcote County Council wrote objectine to pay the Woolston Borough Council's account for maintenance of Canal Roserv« for gorse clearing and grubbing. The letter further stated thot tho County Council was willing to take over the entire control of one half of the road to the middle of the Canal Reserve, and maintain it at its own cost. The 'etter wr>s referred to the Works Committee. In connexion with a request for a contribution, as formerly, to the funds of the Technical College, it wsus resolved to refer tho matter to the Finance Committee. On the recommendation of tho By-laws Committer, with a view to showing what barbed wire fences are interfering wii+.h or dangerou-* to traffic, it was decided that the foreman should rerv>rt on all such fences now remaining. The T\Vks Committee recommended that Radley and Isis streets be traded, and this was agreed Rcgardim. the proposed bridge in Park street, it was resolved that the supports he reinforced concrete piles or solid concrete pilars, that iron "girders l>o provided, and that the decking be jarrah. and also the rail- | ing.
