Tho Aside}* County Council met on Thursday la.it at Loburn. Present — Messrs W. Mackintosh (chairman), Croft, Ensor, Parish, and Philpott. -Mr T. R. Cresswell, headmaster of tiie High School, Rangiora, interviewed tlio Council on behalf of the Rangiora technical classes. The chairmau and members congratulated Mr Cresswell on the success 01 tne Kaugioia schools, and tne Council agreed that a grant 01 s-o should shortly bo maue available. 'Iho Inspector ol .Noxious Weeds again wrote witu regard to tha Caliiomian thistle in tho Ashley riveroed, _uu the clerk was instructeu to writo to the Minister of Lands to ascertain whether the middle of tho river or the right bank was the boundary of tho County. This question required settlement for tne further reason that the Oxford County Council was not willing to do protective work at the south approach of the Ashley ford at Glentui, save at joint cost, if the right bank were the boundary. The allotment of income for road and bridge work for the coming year -was carefully discussed, and it was found necessary, pending the obtaining of a Government grant, to concentrate the strength of the Council's revenue on providing a new bridge over the Okuku. The repair of the main road to White Rock was ordered to be proceeded with, and a contract up to about £400 to be called for this work. Tho Borough Council, Rangiora, wroto asking the Council to re-tar the roadway of the new traffic bridge, and the clerk reported it would be commenced at once. Mr S. E. Tallott wrote, asking the Council for a worker's homo at White Rock, under the Act of last year, but the Council, though generally favourable to the movement, was not able to take up the matter at present. A traction engine driver having committed a breach of tho by-law in raking cinders on the centre of tho road, the clerk was ordered to take proceedings against the owner, unless an apology were forwardled forthwith. Outstanding rates were ordered to bo collected or sued for.
