QUARRELS AMONG WATERSIDE WORKERS.
(PRESS ASSOCIATION' TI_t.EGB.Uf.) AUCKLAND. Alarch 16. Quarrels between Arbitrationists and Federationists are of almost daily occurrence in the city, and men are con-
stantly appearing in the Courts, charged with breaches of the peace, assault, etc. Two cases were ventilated in the Police Court to-day. In one case Thomas Bates, an ex-striker, was charged with assault. It appeared that he met a man named Hargreave*. an Arbitrationist. and allowed Hargreave. to see a photograph of tho Strike Committee, in which he (Bate*) figured. Hargreaves remarked, disparaging!, - , that "it was a wonder the camera didn't, break " Hates «__ i-o angry that he struck Hargreaves. The latter 'promptly retaliated. He blackened Bates's eye, knocked him down, and sat on him until a constable came and took him to the lock-up. Bates complained that a witness, who supported Hargreaves's statement, was biased against the old waterside workers, who, he said, were victimised men, and not allowed to live. The Magistrate sentenced Bates to seven days' imprisonment. •WELLINGTON SENTENCES. (PRESS ASSOCIATION Tr.t-KORAM.) WELLINGTON March 16. Af the Supremo Court to-day Samuel Ford was sentenced to eighteen months' imprisonment on each of two charges of forgery. Richard Carpenter and David Conway Burn, who had admitted various chai-ges of burglary at Napier, came up for sentence. Carpenter was sentenced to two years' imprisonment, to be concurrent with the term he is now serving. Burn was ordered to come up for senteneo when called upon.
