Ike annual report of the Canterbury Bugby Union, to ba submitted to th* delegates on Friday night next, regrets that for tlw second year in succession ths balancesheet of the Union shows a loss os the year's working. This deficit was caused last year by the unusually heavy expenses connected with the Union's outside matches. Nine representative matches were played, six being woo and three lost. The result might be considered fairfy creditable. The interest in the inter-olub matches waa fully sustained throughout the competitions. Boys' High School Old Boys won the senior, MerivaJe the junior, Lyttelton the President's Cup, Merivale the fourth grade, and .Northern the filth grade. Tho Union's representatives on thi Boajrd of Control—Messrs Maaon, Evans, and Wilson —have given cloee attention to the interests of the Union, and have regularly attended the meetinga of the Board. Whilst many improvements have been carried out, much still Temains to be done in tho matter of providing additional seating accommodation for tho general public, and improving tho couth grounds. The training hall, which wa3 erected at Lancaster Park last season, has proved a souroe of great convenience to tha members of the vajiou* clubs, and has been very well patronised by players. In order to assist the movement, the ground trustees of the C.R.U. have advanced the sum of £300, for three years, at 4 per cent, per annum, on a first mortgage over the property. It is the duty of every member of those clubs interested in •the hall to assist the committee by attending on the training night, arranged, by the training hall executive. Tbe players of Chnstchurch are extremely lortunate in having for their training work such a fine hall. which has been frequently spoken of as one of-the best of ita kind in the Dominion.
