EYRE.
At the last meeting of tho Eyre County Council thero were present—) Messrs Richard Evans (chairman), W. Dixon, F. F. Horrell, F. J. Horrell, J. Wright, and C. M. Williams. Tho Treasury stated that the Government grant for tho bridge, over the Rangiora main drain had been paid to tho credit of the Council at the Bank of New Zealand, Kaiapoi. The Kaiapoi Borough. Council stated that the Council could not see its way to contribute towards tho cost of a bridge at Perrin s ford; also that it was urging tho Government to arrange to forward weather ancl Hood reports from Bealey, and asking the Council to support tho request. Agreed to. The* District Health Officer stated that he had been informed that several buildings had been brought into the county contrary to section 92 of the Public Health Act, 1908, and recommended the Council to take steps to enforce the. provisions of the Act, and prevent such buildings heinj* occupied. Messrs Orchard-and Clark waited on tho Council, aud stated that they were not aware that it was necessary to give notice. It was resolved that the Health Officer oe written to, stating" that tho Council believed that tho building was shifted in ignorance, and was prepared to givo n "permit if the Health Officer considered the building fit for habitation when repaired and put in order. Tho Besident Railway' Engineer forwarded fresh agreement forms regarding cleaning the Kaikainui creek. L. B. Evans applied for a traction engine license for haulage. Granted. Alfred Pearce wrote in reference to extra payments on account of bridge approaches on Smith's road. Received. W. Jackson requested the Council to allow payment for breakages to his plant while, working at tho ,Eyre bank. Resolved to allow £4 extra. Messrs W. Wilson and Frost interviewed the Council in reference to their properties fronting the Eyre Reserve, and were informed that tho Council had no jurisdiction.. Mr H. J. Horrell was authorised to arrange with Mr Denim for a further term of one year for lease of Reserve 364. Mr Williams gave notice of motion to move at next meeting that the Council consider the advisability of the purchase of land and building workmen's cottages, anil planting the Springbank Reserve. The chairman reported that John Thomas Free had been ap- • pointed ranger for the Eyreton Riding. Tho surveyor was directed to meet Mr Horrell at West Eyreton toconsult and arrange for repairs to culvert at Turner's, shingling a portion "of the Eyre and Cust roads, regarding proiSective work* at W. Bennett's, and spreading the footpath with grit from the town boundary to Sneyd street.
