TAWERA.
The monthly meeting of the Tawera County Council was held on Monday. % Present:—Messrs Seymour (chairman)* * Johnson, Manson, Millik.n, O'Sbaughnessy, and Rutledgo. Correspondence w*as read from Messrs Paterson and Newton, recommending eomo short piles being driven on the up-stream side of the bridge, as a protection against scour. It was decided to have tho piles driven whilst the work is in - progress. Mr Barnes wrote stating that he would be unable to supply any more timber, as the bush land about View Hill had all been let to settlers. -Mr W. J. Atkinson forwarded a cheque for £10 which he had promised as a donation towards the Kowai bridge. A vote of thanks was passed to Mr Atkinson for his seasonable gift. The .chairman moved: — "That this Council deeply deplores the sad accident which caused the death of Mr Fred. Hadecke, and tenders to his widow and children, also his parents, its most sincere sympathy in their great trouble." Some repairs" wero ordered to be done in various parts of the county.
