(Before Messrs J. Blyth, A. Gibson, and J. Fitzgerald, J.P.'s.) For failing to render personal service as required by tho Defence Act, the following were dealt with: —G. A. Harris, fined 20s and costs 9s: George Frederick Haar, 40s and costs 7s; Edward Counihan, 5s and costs ?s; Reginald Thomas, Samuel Wallace, Stephen Matthew Clinch, Frank Cnnnard, William Henry Gasbn, Alfred Gason, and William Knight, each 10s jind costs. Several cases were adjourned till tho 31st inst. (Before Mr V. G. Day, S.M.) For driving a motor-car by night without a light. Arthur Eden was fined 20s and costs lis.

Whitau (a Maori), charged with failing to quit licensed premises and with

using obscene language, was fined 40s and costs.

James Pepperill Radford, charged with being in arrears in his payments towards the support of his wife, stated tbat he had been in no regular work since December, and so soon as ho got suitable work he would conform to the order mado. No order was made.

Arthur Muff was charged wi.Ti failing to clear Californian thistles. Tho defendant explained that he was a new oirival from tho Old Country, and. owing to a misunderstanding between himself and the inspector, he thought he had cTfeared tho portion of land referred to by tho latter. John Leonard sued AValtor Anglem •for £3 2s (id, damage done to bicycle borrowed without authority by defendant. Judgment was given for plaintiff for £2 2s and costs £1 2s 6d.

Tho Temuka Borough Council sued A. O. Watson for rent of a reserve repudiated by defendant owing to area o 1 - reserve not being as advertised. Judgment was given for plaintiff borough with costs.

Judgment was given for plaintiff by default in a civil action 0. Hancox v. M. McAteer, claim £9 9s 9d. Tsaac Taylor was ordered to pay amounts owing to the Houdai Lanka Tea Company and M. Moncur and Co. at the rate of 5s a week in each case.
