YACHTING AT SUMNER.
TO THE EDITOR OF "THE TRESS." Sir,—l would liko to know who is responsible for the proper marking of tho channels in the Estuary, as a large number of stakes .have been washed away or broken off. At high tide it ia,a very difficult task to keep" a yacht in the proper.channel, as all the sandbanks are submerged, and the stakes are few and far between. Another thing I wish to call attention to is the colour of the iron beacon on tho rocks near the bar. It _ impossible to see it from the open sea, owing to the largo number of houses at Clifton that have red roofs. While crossing the bar in a small yacht last Sunday I tried to find the beacon, bnt could" not see it until we were about one hundred yards from it, and even then it was ve\ry indistinct. Instead of being painted red." I think it should be painted white, and kept white. Yacht and motor-boating on tho Estuary has gone ahead rapidly during the last three years, and I think something should be done to encourage tho sport and reduce tho danger to those who navigate the bar.—Yours etc., ' February 23rd. YACHTSMAN.
