"HAS W. T. STEAD RETURNED?,"

TO Tβ* KDITOR Of 'THE TSSSi." Sir,—l. don't .know why tho reading of the book Diith the abov6 title shouui affect your reviewer with a -pathetic feeling, and aot joyous. 1 suppose he ■wishes it known that he ie onttie popular side, among the great majority who look with pity, tinged with contempt,, on all those eccentric people who oelieve in tho possibility of spirit return. It would bo interesting to know what qualifications your reviewer has to sit in judgment on "those professional mediums and ardent admirers" who hare (in his opinion) been deceived by a eort of self-delusion, and have got mental impressions of what they intensely longed to get. An ounce of faci is worth a ton of thory, and the ounce of fact is not vouchsafed to many, and evfcn then it only comes after long searching and training, like a taste for .tomatoes.- It was curious and significant the current of opposition that had to be overcome before this little book could be published, a book which will doubtless carry a message to many that there are things hitherto undreamt of in their philosophy. etc., , PETER TROLOVE.
