(special to "the press.") NEW PLYMOUTH, February 11. The Taranaki Jockey Club's Autumn Meetins ' iva,s opened to-day in glorious weather. The course was fast and the times gocd. The attendance was very large and speculation brick, £15.673 10s going through the totalisator, against £12,5-10 last year, an increase of £2833 10s. McCarten, rider of Patronymic in the. Okato Hack Handicap, was fired £5 for crossing. The following are the dctai's of the racing: — HACK HURDLES, ct 125 soys: eecond 15 M vn from the stake. One mile and a half. 1. T. L. Warca, Kurnalpi, and Huia over the first hurdle. Parsing the stand the order w*s tho came, but at the six furlong poet Kurnalpi displaced Katua, and Huia ran into third place. Katua fell four furlor.gs from home, and the race re-solved itself into a match between Kurnalpi and Huia. Kurnalpi had a length's advantage ac tiiey ran into the etraight, and held it easily to the finish. Warca iras nearly twenty lengths a-way, third, just beating Ruffy by a head for third money. Lord Lupin was first to take up the run ning from a fine start, followed by Peronillo. At the four furlong post Grattan displaced PcroniHa, then followed Simple Sam, Gerbera. and Actor, with Bradamante last. Lord Lupin was tho firet to turn for home, and won very easily by three-quartere"of a length from Gerbera. Astor was two lengths a-way, third, and then came Peronilla, Gratton, ana Simple Sam. O'Neill.) From another fine start, Rector Girl showed out first from. King Chira, Miss Kelly, and Crawford. At the end of a furlong_ Rector Girl fell back, leaving King Chiara in front. Paoli wae lying sixth. At the turn "Rector Girl put in a challenge, and Paoli could be seen threading his way through the field. At the distance Miss Kelly looked all over a winner, but Paoli, nicely handled by H. Gray, finished gamely, and just beat tor by a. head on the post. Rector Girl was a head away, third, and then came Ratana, Omata, and King Chira. Time, lmin 15 4-sth seo. TAKANAKI CUP, of 500 soys; second 50 cove, and third 20 boys from the eta-ke. (Winner trained by J. C. Chaafe, junr.) The field -moved off in almost perfect order, Con t>he Shaughraun being the only one to lose ground. Peroneal and Pa-tronale Bet a warm pace, followed by Emperador and a bunched lot. Goldeize moved up into third place ac they ran past the etand, and tho order was Patronale, Peroneal, Goldsize, Emperador, Allegation, and Stepney, Tiresome being last. At the six furlong post Patronale and Peroneal opened up a big break on Goldsize and Emperador. Byron ran into fifth place, five furlongs from home. At the High School bend the leaders commenced to come back, and Goldsize headed them before turning for homo. Emperador and Byron came through strongly,, but they had no chance of catching the light-weight, who won comfortably by rather more than a length. Emperador just beat Byron by a ehort neck, and the older was then Tiresome, Allegation, and Cheddar, with Con the Shaughraun and Patronale last. Time, 2min 7 2-sth sec. FIRST WELTER HANDICAP, of 100 eovs; second 15 eovs from the stake. One mile. 1. T. F. Goddard's br g Tetilcura, by Advance —Comriere, 6yrs, Sst (H. Gray) 1 3. D. Butcher Boy reared up -and fell backwards, but Conqnest cleverly escaped accident. Eventually a good start was effected, Conney and Maniaroa leading Canute and a bunched lot passing the etand. Along th« back Patroness ran up to the leaders, and three furlonge from home was showing the way to Patronymic and Di Gama. Patronymic was in front ac they swung into the straight, and Di Gama and Conney immediately challenged. A fine race ensued, Patronymic outstaying Di Gama and winning by half a length; Conney -was a similar dis-taix-o away, third. Then followed Canute and Belle Paul. Watine was doce with at the turn, and Patroon, Firing Line. His Eminence, and Innoladdo all appeared to have a chance. Firing Line wae blocked and the i«sue appeared to be between Innoladdo and Patroon. Inside the dr.stance Patroon faltered, and Inno'addo ran in a winner by nearly a length from Firing Line.
