Ryan (Matakanui), Mrs Hume Lindsay, Miss Nathan (Wellington). , • The officer in command of the Discovery, the vessel which is to take out the Stackhouse Antarctic Expedition, will probably be Lieutenant A. E. Harbord, R.N., of Hull. He was second officer in the Nimrod under Shackleton. and is now in the surveying ship Endeavour. Leslie- Thomson. R.W.S., of Christchurch, is showing some of his pictures at the Landscape ExhibifidnV which is just opened at the Gallery of the Kc-yal Society of Pain,tors in Water Colours. '- Last year he had two pictures hung in the Paris Salon. At the inauguration of graduates at 3ninbridge University this week, the following Now Zealanders- were, in the list:—Mr Henry D. Ho is with the Britishr Wcstinghonse Electrical Mannfacturing.Company, at Old Trafford, his object? being to extend his experience in electrical engineering. Mr Toomey>will be here for more than two rears.

The departure of. Harry Lander and ma wife, from Liverpool oV their world tour, which will take them- to New Zealand, was celebrated' with great eclat this • week. /The comedian was escorted to the landing stage by-eight pjj>ers of tho Liverpool Scottish, and naturally a great crowd was attracted to the embarkation. Mr Lander's fame as a preacher has gone round the world before him, and he has received many invitations to occupy pulpits in different American cities.

Mr J. R. Sinclair, in order to get to W ° i f « On ■ as - DOSS, .W e. in connexion with the Royal Commission on Imperial Trade, left the Medina at Marseilles and travelled overland to London. \\hen about two hours on the journey the train daehed into an engine and some trucks, a very bad accident being averted by the promntitude of the stationmastor. -Mr Sinclair has been very busy since reaching London, and expects to be fully occupied with the work of the Commission until leavin"for South Africa by the Kinfauns Castle on February 7th. Ho will probably be back in England in May.
