TERRITORIAL NOTES

Cadets of Territorial ago, wio are at secondary schools,-and who hold the rank of sergeant in a Cadet company, are eligible to sit for examinations for first commissions. Group orders issued by Captain TV. C. Furtiis, officer-in-chargo of Area Group Xo. 9, state that a number of cadets are in the habit of appearing on parade in mufti. In future any cadetparading improperly dressed will be proceeded against as laid down in the ]>efenco Act. Tlie Defence Regulations hare been amended to provide that no Senior Cadet shall wear his uniform or any part thereof, including his military greatcoat, except when performing military duties or serving in any camp of training or military exercise, or going to or from tho place of parade, exercise, training, or military duty. A breach of this regulation renders tho offender liable to a fi.no not exceeding £.2 for each offence. A class for N.C.O.'s and privates of the Ist (Canterbury) K-egiment has Been formed under Sergeant-Major Weston for preparation for examinations for promotion and appointments. About fifty, names have been enrolled, and the class will be held on two nights a week, starting on February 23rd and concluding at Easter time. * The writ- | ten portion of tho examination will be held on April Kith, and that for practi- | cal work on April 18th. The Senior Cadet companies of Christchurch. and suburban districts will parade in Hagley Park this will parade in Hagley Park to-morrow evening at 7 o'clock for inspection by the Officer Commanding the District. It is expected that there will be a big muster. Members of the Honorary Territorials and all people taking an interest in the Senior Cadets are invited to be present. On Monday night about 100 new ■uniforms avere .issued to Senior Cadets on parade. The new arms for the Cadets are arriving from "Wellington, and are passing through ,the hands of the armourers for inspection and marking. A rifle will bo issued to every Cadofc shortly, and all will bo supplied before the arrival of General Sir lan Hamilton. The rifles ate those which were recently purchased from the Canadian Government. They are Lce-Enfield rifles, and are of practically the same pattern as those issued to the Territorials. They are good weapons, and very many of them are quite new and have not'be« previously used. The musketry may, however Cβ done on parades. By anplying t< tJio authorities, a man may mak< arrangements to do four days' extrtraining in camp, in lieu of*2o drill; and of half-day parades. A night and morning camp foi Christchurch and suburban member; of the Ist (Canterbury), Regiment wil! be held at Redchffs, starting on Friday 13th itist. The camp is being held tc enable the men to fire their musketr-y course, which was suspended during the strike period. The various companies-will proceed to the camp after work each evening and will ''carry on" until dark, and will complete their course in the. mornings afternai-ds returning to the city by an early car, in order that .the men may get to their ordinary occupations. Arrangements have been made to meet the case of those employed at the Addington Workshops. Major Murphy will be in command of the camp.
