(from otto owk correspondent). LONDON, November 14. The present Receiving Room Officer at the London Hospital is Mr G. M. Chapman, M.R.C.S., M.B.Camb., son. of Mr Justice Chapman, of New Zealand.

Father Bernard Vaughan, the celebrated preacher, writes to mo with regard to his ruiuoured visit to New Zealand:—"l have been honoured with an invitation to visit Australia and New Zealand, but nothing is settled about the matter as yet."

Mr J. B. Clarkson (Wellington and Christchurch) leaves for the Continent next month to visit the manufacturing centres of Germany. He has been attending the motor exhibition in Paris, also the motor exhibition now being held at Olyrapia.

The latest list of newly-elected members of th_ Royal College of Surgeons includes the following names : —Francis Gordon Bell, Edinburgh University (Blenheim); Frederic Vivian BevanBrown, Guy's Hospital (Christchurch); Hubert Roy I>ive, St. Bartholomew's Hospital.

Dr. F. A. Scannell, who has been doing post-graduate study here for two years past, will probably return to r ew Zealand early in the new year. He spent six mouths at tho Middlesex Hospital and some time at Edinburgh, where he gained the diploma of F.R.C.S. Then he spent two months in the infirmaries and maternity hospitals in Glasgow.

Mr R. Chas. Webb, who has been in Europe for three months past investigating with a view to tho establishment of tho wood pulp and paper-making industry in New Zealand, has returned to London from a visit to France, Switzerland, and Germany. Some of tho samples of New Zealand timbers were tested in a mill in Switzerland with results which are understood to be very satisfactory. Mr Webb will remain in England for a week or so before taking his departure for home via Australia. He has been elected a Follow of the Royal Colonial Institute.

Referring to Lord Kelburn's New Zealand appointment, the "Daily Express" says:—He is "one of the few instances of an heir to a peerage serving in the Navy, for he is the eldest son of the Earl of Glasgow. Tho latter is himself a retired captain, with a record of service that goes back to the White Sea operations during tho Crimean War, but when he entered the Navy there was little likelihood of his succeeding to the peerage. Four years ago Lord Kelburn attended the Hudson ..celebrations in America, having command of the Argyll. Previously ho was a lientennnt in the Renown, which carried the King and Queen, when Prince and Princess of Wales, to India, he was also on board the Ophir when their Majesties made their colonial tour."
