THE GOVERNMENTS NATIVE LAND POLICY.
APPROVED BY GREAT NATIVE GATHERING.
(■PECIAL TO "THE PRESS.")
WANGANUI, December 23
A brief Press Association message was given a day or two ago concerning a targe gathering of Natives at Taiporohenui, when Dr. Pomaro gave an address on the land question, with special reference to the West Coast reserves. Every hapu within Taranaki borders was represented, and it reminded the older Natives of the great meetings held in tho time of Te Whiti and Tohu. Dr. Pomare delivered a lengthy speech in explanation of the Government's Native land policy. The speech appeared to be satisfactory, because, although he invited questions, none was asked.
The meeting unanimously endorsed the new legislation, and passed a vote of confidence in the present Government.
One of the biggest Native meetings held on this coast for some time is expected to take place at Parewanui on Christmas and . Boxing Days. The Maoris axe going to it from all parts of the Island. It is anticipated that the Government will be represented by a Minister'of the Crown. The meeting is to be partly political and partly a re-union of tie. tribes of tha North Island.
