In the House of Representatives Mr Cook drew attention to remarks made by Mr McGrath, as reported in a Ballarat paper. Tho remarks concerned the Speaker. Mr McGrath was asked to withdraw the remarks, but he endeavoured to temporise, saying he had not read the report. After noisy scenes, Mr McGrath, by 35 votes to 34, was suspended for the remainder of the session.
