THE WRIT AGAINST THE ACCOMPANIST.

In the case Shipman versus Simmons, claim.:-.-'for -"2000 for alleged slander, plaintiff was granted a writ of habeas carpus against defendant, who said he was leaving shortly for Java. The slander complained of waa contained in the words: —"This is Shipman's finish. Madame Nordica could put him in gaol for misappropriating her money," which plaintiff alleged that defendant uttered aboard tho Loongana to three others, and also the words "Shipman has been, robbing Madame Nordica right and left" which it is alleged defendant uttered at the Hotel Australia in Sydney to another person.
