Mr McKenna, replying to a petition presented by clergymen praying for Mrs Pankhurst's release, said that nothing had boon done under the Act that could injure her health. Doctors were of tho opinion that her health was not seriously injured. Unless he received an assurance that Bho would abstain from future crimes, it was impossible for him to advise his Majesty to grant her a pardon or to remit her sentence.
