LICENSING COURT.
KAIAPOI. At the quarterly meeting of the Kaiapoi Licensing Committee yestorday there were present: —Messrs T. A. B. Bailey, S.M., J. W. Foster, F. Horrcll, C. Leech, T. Mably, and J. L. Wilson. The question of water supply for the Commercial Hotel, West Oxford, was reported on by Sergeant Mackay. Mr Hunter appeared for E. Hill, the Hceneeo, and said that steps were being taken to have a well sunk. Constable Leahy pointed out. that the present supply iroin the water-raco should bo entirely cut off. The race water was pumped by a ram to tanks,* which supplied the hotel, and it was used for drinking. The Chairman asked how tho 6upply from the well would be kept up. Constable Leahy 6aid that at tho East Oxford Hotel tho supply Was pumped by a small engine. Mr Hunter said the well sinker was engaged on the work, and it would be gone on with. The Committee decided to grant a temporary license till the next quarterly meeting, the fee to be paid monthly in advance.
