ASSISTANT MASTERS' ASSOCIATION.

ANNUAL MEETING

,Tho annual mooting of the North Canterbury Assistant Masters' Association was held in the V.M.C.A. rooms last night. Tho report ami balancc-sheot wore adopted. In moving tho adoption of tho report, tho President congratulated members on tho formation of tho Association. He outlined tho steps which led up to its formation, and said that ho thought it had fulfilled expectations. Tho Association had been formally represented on several committees, and its recommendations had received due consideration. Tho coming year would be t\ very important one. Tho mny syllabus would require, careful consideration, and the now scale of salaries would need very careful watching. Many suKKestions had been mad«; relative to country service, and this affected many members. Tho drill question would also bo very important this year, and tho Association might suggest _ that some simpler system of drill bo introduced into tho schools. It was obvious from tho opinion of exports Riven in thy Garljck case that teachers would not be competent to teach the Swedish system after only a fortnight's training. Ho wished to thank tho committeo for tho support it had jpven him iluriug tho year, and especially the honorary secretary. Tho olectiou of officers resulted as follows:—President, Mr F. D. Waller; vice-presidents, Messrs J. E. Purchase and P Menzics; hon. secretary and treasurer. Mr T. A. Fletcher; executivo, the president, vice-presidents, hon. secretary, and Messrs A. C. Maxwell, W. "W. 'Garten, and It. Malcolm; hon. auditor, Mr J. E. It. S^mith. It was decided to send sood wishes to tho Assistant Masters* Associations of Auckland and Dunedin. Tho" remainder of the. evening was spent in recalling amusing incidents that had talcon place in the schoolroom. Songs were j»ivcn by 'Messrs Malcolm, Hunnibell, Thwaitos", and Barrcll.
