FARMING ON THE WEST COAST.
(special to "the phess.") OREYMOUTH, May 16. Messrs R. Scott and G, J. Anderson, tho Otaso members of tho House of Representatives who accompanied the Hon. W. H. Herrjcs on his tour of this part of tho Dominion, aro agreeably impressed with the future prospecte of the West Coast. With reference to agriculture and dairying they are particularly optimistic. Mr Anderson states that if he were a young man ho would have no hesitation in settling on the good land which he found to exist between Greymouth and Rcefton. All that was wanted was young energetic men with a little capital, and they would soon make good farms on land at present rovorcd by scrub or bush. He realised that a great future in before the dairying industry on the West Coast. Feed is plentiful, and the rainfall leaves no cause for nnsiety. Air Scott is of a similar opinion. He is a great believer.in the small settlement ej-stem aa the bort for the country aa a •whole. It r'Ould particularly suit the West Coast, which he thinks will in the future be studded with dairy farms. Mr Scott also thinks some of tho back country on the West Coast admirably suitable for sheep-raising.
