The Jocal "Waterside Workers' Union put up a notice this morning at the wharf saying that no member of tho union was to engage for work on the steamer John until further notice, 'ihe secretary stated that tho men had decided to put up tho notice pending instructions from tho Federation of Labour headquarters. The John was loaded at Timaru, firo unionists and two non-unionists being employed. Tho union men asked that the treelabourers bo discharged. At this one of them left of his own accord, but the other, however, was kept on, and tho unionists left the ship. Her loading was completed with freo labour.
