THE SIGHT TESTS.
BOARD OF TRADE'S NEW RULES,
The new "Regulations Relating to the Examination of I'asters and Mates" issued by the Board of Trade came into force on April Ist. Every candidate for a certificate rev. t psji tha form vktcn test. If he presents himself for examination before January Ist. 1314, he will only be required to possess half normal vision using both eyes together. A candidate who has obt .ined a certificate before that date will b« allowed to obtain his higher certificates on the same standard of vision.

Every candidate roust undergo the colour v*«ior. testa on the first occasion on which ho presents himself for cxaminaticn for a certificate of competency; but, if he then p. f .es, he will not bo required to "undergo the colour vision teuts on any subsequent occasion provided that, on those occasions, ho reaches the standard of form vision pre•scribed lor oandid ayes on and after January Ist. 1314. A candidate ""ho fails to pass the prescribed form vision test may present himself let re-er:;mi_i»l:c.n nt intervals of three months. A cardidale who fails to pass the clour vision te*t, or who ia referred by the local examiner for further examination in London, is not allowed to be examined locally. In the caso of a candidato who is referred for further examination, the uoatd of Trade will make tirrangeinents _ far a Rperial examination in London, and it is also open to any candidate who is adjudged to have failed in the local colour vision test, to appeal to th. Board, who may, if they think "fit. to remit tho caco to a special body of examiners for decision.
