SUMNER-REDCLIFFS. NOTES.
General satisfaction is expressed by local yachtsmen, motor-boat owners, and the public as a whole, at tho decision of the Lyttelton Harbour. Board to re-orect the beacon on the Cavo Rocks, Sumner, which was damaged and laid low by the heavy seas a few , weeks ago. The staff of tho old ono j is said to havo been much too short, as tho seafarers frequently found a • difficulty in picking it up, especially at high tides. Tho Sumnei Beautifying Association has approached the Borough Council, with a view to having tlio lagoon, or | reserve, at tho end of the Esplanade, and near the creek outlet, filled in as soon as possible, so that it may bo planted. This would bo a great im-: provemont to this part, and will form a sort of pleasure ground. ! N The pipes for tho water supply on the Spur at Redcliffs will, apparently, not bo landed here for another three or four weeks yet. The Knramea, which is bringing them out, is . now advertised to arrive in Lyttelton on June 3rd. A very successful concert, of more than ordinary excellence, was given in tho schoolroom at Redcliffs on Friday night, when there was a largo audience, in spite of tho inclement weather. With ono or two exceptions, the performers were local resr'dents. Tho proceeds w-'ll be devoted to the School Library Fund, which will be subsidised by tho Education Board. It is intended that the library shall form the nucleus of a publio ono, which is considered much needed in this thriving part of the borough of Sumner.
