OXFORD.
At the last meeting of the Oxford County Council there were present: — Messrs H. Campbell (chairman), A. Baxter, H. T. Cooper, J. Cross, A. Meyers, J. McCormack and J. Wells. Tho balance-sheet for the year showed a debit balance of £285 Os 7d. It waa resolved to call a special meeting to consider the matter. A deputation from West Oxford waited on the Council regarding a water raco from Gamman's Creek, for tho Terrace. It waa arranged for the surveyor to mako an estimate of the cost. It was resolved to meet the Minister of Railways at East Oxford station on Thursday, with reference to various matters. A letter was received from the Railway Traffic Manager in regard to a special train for visitors to H.M.S. New Zealand, and one from the Rangiora Borough Council concerning the entertainment of tha crew of tho New Zealand, It was resolved to contribute £5 towards the entertainment fund. It was resolved to ask for an explanation of the unnecessary expense nnd delay in surveying old roads into Lees Valley, while the routo via the Ashley Gorgo (which is much shorter, and will be moro easily maintained), of which fivo and a half miles have been completed at a cost of £2000, is being hung up. Accounts amounting to £200 18s lld, wero passed for payment.
