ANOTHER MOTOR-CAR FATALITY.
• .COLLISION WITH A TRAIN,
A WOMAN KILLED
(PRESS.ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) AUCKLAND, January 14,
Newß was received in Helonsvillo shortly before 12 , o'clock that the North Tehana-Helensville train, due at Kaukapakapa at 11.30, had collided with.a large white motor car at a crossing near the Kaukapakapa railway station, aiid that ono of the occupants of the car had been killed. A special train, with a doctor, ours© and constable, proceeded to the scene.
It was found that a motor-car containing Mr and Mrs Dudley Hill, Mrs Frank Gordon, and Mr Denton Tanner, all of Hawke's Bay, had run into the engine of the train, the occupants being thrown out. Dr. Me'nhold pronounced life extinct in tho case..of Mrs Goidon. Mrs Hill wa3 not badly injured, but was extensively bruised and suffering from shock. Mr Tanner received a bad fracture of tho left knee, also severe cuts and bruises on the head and body. Mr Hill had two ribs broken and severe cuts and bruipes over the body, head and face. All the injured should recover.
Mr Tanner and Mrs Hill, who were seated If the back of the car, state that th_y have no recollection of htr» the accident happened, it was so sudden. Hill, who was driving ,the ca«, states that he did not know of the crossing. Ho was looking ahead but did not notice any sign. He did not hear the train whistle. Mis Gordon was seated beside Hill.
Tho party wero on a touring trip. Messrs Hill and Tanner are sheep farmers. Mrs Gordon is tho wife of Mr Frank Gordon, of Hawke's Bay. Mrs Hill and Mrs Gordon are sisters, and Mr Tanner is.their brother. .Their father is Mr Thomas Tanner, one ot tho oldest and most highly respected residents of Hawke's Bay. Tho railway crossing where the accident occurred is a very dangerous one.
